Hey — welcome to SIGNAL, the weekly AI brief for Shopify operators. Every Tuesday morning, three minutes, no hype. I flag what shipped, what to actually use, and one number worth knowing.
If you found this through today's AnvilHQ launch video — thanks for being here on day one. There's a reason we're starting this week. Let's get into it.
WHAT SHIPPED (actually, what shipped weeks ago that you might've missed)
Your store is already selling in ChatGPT. On March 24, 2026, Shopify activated Agentic Storefronts by default across all eligible US merchants. If you have products in Shopify Catalog and sell to US shoppers, you're already discoverable inside ChatGPT — no opt-in, no app install, no toggle. You can verify it's active and manage each AI channel under Settings → Sales Channels in your admin. Most operators I've talked to had no idea this happened. It's the biggest distribution shift Shopify has rolled out in years, and it's running silently in the background of your store right now.
OpenAI walked back Instant Checkout. ChatGPT no longer completes purchases inside the chat — AI-recommended shoppers now redirect to your actual storefront to check out. This sounds like a step backward, but it's not. It means your product pages, your checkout flow, and your storefront speed matter more than they did three months ago, not less. High-intent AI traffic hitting a slow Liquid theme is wasted intent. Worth a Lighthouse audit this week if you haven't run one in a while.
STAT OF THE WEEK
15x. That's how much orders from AI-powered search to Shopify stores grew over 2025, according to Shopify President Harley Finkelstein on the company's Q4 2025 earnings call. For context, AI-driven traffic was up 7x as of the Q3 call back in November — and these are orders, not impressions. Real checkouts. The traffic is not theoretical and it's not coming "later"; it's already in your analytics, possibly mislabeled as "direct" or "referral." If you haven't checked your acquisition reports for AI-source traffic yet, that's this week's 10-minute task.
WORTH YOUR TIME
If you've got 10 minutes this week: read Ecommerce Fastlane's 2026 agentic commerce guide for Shopify merchants. It's the cleanest single rundown of what's actually live, what you control, and how to think about the next 30–90 days — without the marketing fluff. Pair it with one practical move: open your admin, go to Settings → Sales Channels, and confirm with your own eyes which AI channels are switched on for your store.
One last thing. This is Issue #001. If there's one thing you'd want SIGNAL to cover going forward — a workflow, a tool, a question, an AI feature you're trying to figure out — just hit reply. I read every email that comes in.
See you next Tuesday.
