Hey — quick one this week.

Shopify shipped something in the Spring ‘26 Edition that’s easy to miss but genuinely changes how the admin feels: Sidekick app extensions. Your store assistant can now reach into the third-party apps you already run — Klaviyo, Loop, Smile, Judge.me, Yotpo and a dozen-plus others — instead of making you open each one.

Ask it “how did last week’s email campaign do?” and it pulls the answer from Klaviyo, inside the chat. Ask “any returns I should know about?” and it reads Loop. It’s generally available now — not early access — and any app in Shopify’s ecosystem can build one, so the list will keep growing.

There are two flavors. Data extensions let Sidekick surface what’s in a partner app — campaign performance, loyalty activity, review counts — right in the conversation. Action extensions let it stage a change, like spinning up a promotion. The whole pitch is fewer tabs: your apps come to the assistant instead of you going to the apps.

Did it help, or not

Here’s the honest read, and it comes down to one word: stage.

For anything real, Sidekick doesn’t finish the job — it “brings up the right UI” and hands you back the wheel. You still land inside Klaviyo or Loop to actually ship the thing. So this isn’t autopilot; it’s a smarter front door. That’s genuinely useful for looking things up across tools without hunting for tabs. It’s much thinner for doing, because the doing still happens where it always did.

And the payoff only exists if you’re already deep in these apps. If your key tool hasn’t built an extension yet, Sidekick simply can’t see it — the roster is 15+ apps, not your whole App Store. Run a big stack? This is a real quality-of-life win. Run two apps and check them fine already? You’re not the merchant this was built for, and that’s okay.

The trap to avoid: treating “I can ask Sidekick” as “I’ve handled it.” Asking is not doing. The number moves when you finish the task, not when you get the summary.

One number that matters

The average Shopify store runs about 6 apps — but the spread is the story: roughly 18% run zero third-party apps, and only about 12% run ten or more. App extensions pay off squarely for that top slice with a deep stack. For the big middle running a handful, the “stop app-hopping” promise is more like “hop a little less.”

(Context, not proof: Shopify says weekly active shops using Sidekick were up 4x year-over-year in Q1 — their figure, not independently audited. Adoption is real; whether it saves you time is still a per-store question.)

Your 20-minute move

Open Sidekick, glance at your installed apps, and cross-check them against the partner list. Then ask it one real question that spans two of your tools at once — something like “which customers left a review this month and are also in my loyalty program?” If it answers cleanly, you’ve found a genuine shortcut. If nothing you run is on the list yet, you’ve learned this update isn’t for you this quarter — no setup, no FOMO. Either way you spent 20 minutes and know exactly where you stand.

On the radar

If you self-ship: USPS Ground Advantage commercial rates went up about 11.8% on average (effective mid-July), the 4 oz and 8 oz tiers were removed, and the dimensional-weight divisor dropped to 139. Worth re-checking your shipping profiles before your next restock.

That’s the signal for this week. As always — if it doesn’t move your numbers, it’s just a new place to click.
